VOLUPTUOUS BODIES: INDICATORS OF STRENGTH, FERTILITY, WEALTH, AND SOCIAL STATUS
There was a time when voluptuous bodies were the ultimate ideal of beauty. From prehistory, with figures like the Venus of Willendorf symbolizing fertility and abundance, to the Renaissance, where artists like Rubens celebrated curves in their works.
In times when survival depended on reproduction and enduring hardships, curves were seen as a sign of strength and fertility. Additionally, in periods when food was a luxury, a full figure reflected wealth and social status, as only the privileged could afford an abundant diet. In the 1950s and 60s, icons like Marilyn Monroe brought curves back to the forefront of popular culture.
Beauty has always been shaped by the values and priorities of each era, and voluptuous bodies have often been the embodiment of what was most desired and admired.
