Harley Quinn, whose real name is Harleen Quinzel, was introduced as the Joker's companion and lover in the animated series Batman: The Animated Series in 1992, and since then, she has evolved significantly.

Before becoming Harley Quinn, Harleen Quinzel was a psychiatrist at Gotham City's Arkham Asylum, where she met the Joker. As she treated the Clown Prince of Crime, she fell in love with him, which led her to help him escape and transform into his loyal accomplice, adopting the identity of Harley Quinn. Over the years, Harley has been portrayed as a villain, an antihero, and an independent character who struggles to find her own path away from the Joker’s toxic influence.

Over time, Harley has gained popularity and formed alliances with other key DC characters, such as Poison Ivy and Catwoman. She is known for her chaotic personality, carefree attitude, and combat prowess. Harley Quinn has evolved from a mere sidekick to a complex, strong, and autonomous character within the DC universe.

THE COLOR WHITE

The color white has held different meanings across cultures throughout history. In many Western cultures, it represents purity, innocence, peace, and goodness, often seen in wedding dresses and symbols of surrender or truce. In contrast, in several Asian cultures like China and India, it is associated with mourning and death, being the predominant color at funerals. In Africa, it symbolizes spiritual power and protection, while in ancient Egypt it was connected to resurrection and divinity. For Indigenous American cultures, white represents the north, wisdom, and the cycles of life. In Islam, it symbolizes purity and spirituality, especially during sacred rituals such as the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Globally, white can reflect both purity and new beginnings as well as a connection to the spiritual or divine.

From an evolutionary perspective, the need to exhibit oneself may have deep roots in our biology. Throughout human history, showcasing certain physical traits has been a key tool for survival and reproduction. This behavior could be related to sexual selection, where physical attractiveness symbolizes youth, health, and fertility, increasing the chances of finding a suitable partner.

Exhibiting oneself may also have been a primitive way of communicating availability and highlighting procreative abilities. In this sense, the physical traits being displayed are not just a matter of aesthetics but a sign of survival of the fittest, demonstrating good genetic conditions.

Furthermore, competition between individuals has been an important evolutionary driver, and the exhibition of physical qualities allowed our ancestors to stand out from others, thus increasing their reproductive opportunities. Lastly, in early human societies, this behavior may have been key to integrating into the group and ensuring the protection and social cooperation necessary for survival.

Today, even though we live in a modern society, those primitive instincts remain present. The need to exhibit has evolved and is now reflected on social media, where we showcase the best of ourselves to survive in a digital environment, earn money, stand out from others, and capture attention. What was once a tool for finding a partner and ensuring survival has now become a means to gain followers, obtain validation and opportunities, and, in many cases, monetize our image and skills. In the end, we continue using exhibition as a way to thrive and adapt to the current rules of the game.
